Born out of love of coastal wine, Blue Oasis Wines exemplifies the true characteristics of grapes grown in premier California coastal appellations.
Kate Jones, the creator of Blue Oasis Wines, chose the name because the ocean is her (as well as many others) "Oasis." The "Blue" also comes from the regions which her grapes grow. The first grapes were from the Monterey Bay, also known as the "Blue Canyon," which is deeper and wider than the Grand Canyon. The previous vintage (2014) was produced by grapes from Mendocino County (designated by Docker Hill and Costa Vineyards respectively). The current vintage (2018) was sourced from the "Deep End" of Anderson Valley. The proximity to the ocean yields optimal growing conditions for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Costa Vineyard, located in the Mendocino mountain town of Comptche; ten miles due east of the coastal town of Little River at an elevation of 600 feet benefits from a rare combination of sun and marine influences. A small, five-acre vineyard planted in 1998 to 65% Pommard clone and 35% Dijon #115 clone. Aged 100% in Radoux and Nadalié French oak; 40% new oak barrels and 60% neutral barrels.
Docker Hill Vineyard, located in the Mendocino mountain town of Comptche; eight miles southeast of the village of Mendocino at an elevation of 1,000 feet benefits from morning fog which allows the ripening process to begin several hours prior to the vines on the valley floor. A small, five-acre vineyard planted in 2010 to Pommard, Dijon #777, #828, #115 and Swan clones. Aged 100% in Radoux and Nadalié French oak; 40% new oak barrels and 60% neutral barrels.
Anderson Valley, located in the cooler "Deep End" of Mendocino's famed Anderson Valley, our 2018 Pinot Noir displays ripe cherry and toast notes on the nose followed by a lush mid-palate and an elegant silky finish. This balanced yet complex wine can be enjoyed with a broad array of foods and dishes.
Kate's Background:
Kate grew up on a horse, cattle, and hay farm on the east coast which started her interest in wine. A graduate of the University of Delaware, Kate's success is built upon a diverse career that has seen her work in a plethora of fields from a financial analyst for NASA, to a corporate recruiter, to a licensed Realtor who specializes in the sale of vineyards, wineries and luxury estates in the Napa Valley region and simultaneously a winemaker and proprietor of Blue Oasis Wines. She lived on Long Island for three years and that's where her love for grapes really blossomed. From then on she has been studying wine and moved to the Napa Valley to pursue her dream. Blue Oasis label came to fruition Kate stating “the ocean has always been my place to go to relax and clear my mind. When I have a hard time sleeping I imagine the waves crashing and take a breath in when the wave is rising and then I take a deep breath out when I imagine it receding. I then try to clear my mind as the sand clears. It's also a way to learn to let go of things.”
